Bianca Roberson's life was not lived in vain. Bianca was a generous spirit, and in the same vein, we envision sharing her generous spirit with other youth. The vision of this foundation is to honor her legacy by actively being involved in the community. We will embrace and teach our young people their importance and value in this society. We envision to make our young people culturally aware of not just the city and state in which they reside, but the world in general. We desire to spread the vision to our young people that they are loved, valued and important to this society.
**We are strong advocates against gun violence. Gun violence is an epidemic plaguing our nation**
The symbol we have chosen for the foundation is the Sankofa. What the Sankofa represents is in line with the mission and vision of the foundation. WHAT DOES SANKOFA MEAN?
The concept of “Sankofa” is derived from King Adinkeraof the Akan people of West Africa. “Sankofa” is expressed in the Akan language as“sewo were fi nawosankofaa yenki.” Literally translated, this means “it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot”.
Sankofa” teaches us that we must go back to our roots in order to move forward. That is, we should reach back and gather the best of what our past has to teach us, so that we can achieve our full potential as we move forward. Whatever we have lost, forgotten, forgone, or been stripped of can be reclaimed, revived, preserved, and perpetuated.,
“In order to understand our present and ensure our future, we must know our past.”
